Why EFT/ Tapping?

Almost a decade ago I was introduced to EFT/tapping by a good friend, colleague and now mentor. Although initially skeptical and unsure of how to use it independently, I watched first hand as it transformed the lives of those around me who used it consistently. I was desperate to find relieve from physical and emotional pain of a divorce, grief from the strained relationship with my two adolescent children and guilt so deep that I did not believe I was worthy of anything good in my future. But slowly and gently I learned to use EFT with the support of my own coaches to manage emotional flooding and the beliefs that I would never heal relationships with myself and others. Yet, through patience, dedication and specific goal setting I was able to break through my limiting beliefs and create abundance in finances and relationships. I became a homeowner once again and now enjoy loving and healthy relationships with both of my children. I healed other relationships that I thought had been devastated and let go of toxic relationships that were no longer serving me. My journey continues as I hold space to practice even greater compassion for self and the belief that I deserve greatness in each and every aspect of my life. Tapping has proven to me that nothing is impossible with dedication to doing YOUR work.

History of EFT

In 1979 Psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan, was frustrated by his lack of success using conventional techniques with a client and her debilitating fear of water. Simultaneously Dr. Callahan began studying Ancient Chinese Medicine, specifically the body’s meridian points. These pathways are the carriers of the body’s life force/chi. During a session with this client Dr. Callahan discovered that by gently physically tap of the end points of the body’s meridians it brought relief to his patient’s physical and emotional pain as well as their fear and anxieties. It was Dr. Callahan’s then student, Gary Craig, that began to sequence the tapping points hitting on all the body’s major meridian points. The term Tapping/EFT- Emotional Freedom Technique was born of this work.

Science of EFT

There is not much undisputed evidence from years of research and studies that EFT has a proven effect on the physical body. EFT relaxes the Amygdala, an almond shaped part of the midbrain and limbic system. The Amygdala is responsible for the body’s Fight, Flight or Freeze Response. It is our source of emotions and stores our negative emotions and experiences. The use of EFT interrupts the stress response in this section of the brain, allowing us make healthier and safer choices in moments of distress. EFT/Tapping is now a part of Energy Psychology, the “Acupuncture with No needles.” EFT has been proven effective for PTSD (numerous studies with veterans), trauma, phobias and anxiety.
